Feb 27 498: Jack of Flights

The airship, which Angela christens the Five Finger Discount, sails on its way to Riverport. The captured Imperial elites are interrogated and then quietly thrown overboard by Angela while the rest of the party aren’t looking, and the rescued scientists working on Project Diamond are debriefed. Freddie is delighted to discover that her sister is among them.

The party learn that Project Diamond was an attempt to decode a series of Ancient Praxian hieroglyphs. Various archaeological and linguistic experts had been kidnapped from around the Empire and put to work trying to learn the Praxian language, but they kept on running against failure due to lack of source material. They had figured out — as the party had done in Praxia — that the ancient Praxians used constellations in their murals to indicate the time and location that the drawing was set in.

The party receive a further call on their mirror. It’s from Gasparo again; this time, he’s bruised and dirty, and out of breath. Hurriedly, he warns the party not to return to Ramaslu: undead have poured out of the IBIS work farms and are sweeping the nation. He especially warns Zoe to run: “she” is not dead, and she’s looking for her. As the party are starting to wonder who “she” is, their questions are answered when the door behind Gasparo is kicked down to reveal a silhouetted figure, covered in purple, glowing Etherite tattoos and armed with a longspear. She hurls it at the mirror, killing the connection. Papan, it would appear, has returned.
